To obtain a your Private/General Drivers License: After obtaining your provisional license and completing the driving lessons you must then take a driving test to determine your competence. You first need to pay the driver’s license examination fee of $2,700 at the Tax Office or the Swallowfield Depot in St Andrew (debit/credit card only). Valid Photo I.D. Driver License, Green Card) - Completed Online Emergency Travel Document Form - Two Passport sized Photos - (1 must be notarised) - A printed copy of the Confirmed Travel Itinerary - Money Order in the amount of US$90.00 made payable to the Consulate General of Jamaica - Miami.

Driver's Lic. Renewal /TRN /Notarization

DRIVER'S LICENCE RENEWAL

The processing of applications to renew a driver's licence is not done by the High Commission or the Consulate in Birmingham. All applications should be sent directly to the respective Collector of Taxes in Jamaica. You will require an individual in Jamaica to transact the renewal on your behalf, if you will not be following through the process directly.

Procedure

  • The application form should be completed in full and signed in the presence of a Notary Public or Consular Officer, who should affix his/her stamp and duly sign the form
  • One (1) passport sized photo of the applicant
  • The applicant should also address a letter of authorization to the Collector of Taxes, giving clear and sole authority to the bearer of the letter by name to conduct the transaction on his/her behalf. The letter should be certified by a Consular Officer (High Commission or at the Consulate in Birmingham)
  • The applicant should send to the individual acting on his/her behalf the:
    • Completed Application Form
    • Authorization letter
    • One (1) passport size photo
    • Relevant fee

Processing of the application should begin once the necessary documents have been submitted to the Collector of Taxes in Jamaica which issued the original driver's licence. The processing time should be within 10 working days.

An application for an International Driver's Licence is the same as above.

TRN APPLICATIONS

Drivers

The processing of TRN applications is not done by the High Comission or the Jamaican Consulate in Birmingham. All applications should be sent directly to the respective Collector of Taxes in Jamaica. You will require an individual in Jamaica to conduct the transaction on your behalf.

Procedure

The application form should be completed in full and signed in the presence of the Consular Officer at the High Commission or the Jamaican Consulate in Birmingham, who will affix his/her stamp and sign the form.

The fee for certifying the TRN form is £15.00,payable via direct transfer to the Jamaican High Commission. No cash/cheques or debit/credit cards will be accepted.

Applicants will be assigned a reference number. This reference number MUST be used in making the required bank payment. Failure to include the reference number will result in undue delays in the processing of your application/transaction.

A valid Passport or Driver’s Licence should be submitted – to be copied and certified.

NOTARIZATION / CERTIFICATION

The High Commission is able to authenticate documents such as Birth & Marriage Certificates and other legal documents intended for use in Jamaica.

The fee is £15.00 per signature per document, payable via direct transfer to the Jamaican High Commission. No cash/cheques or debit/credit cards will be accepted.

Applicants will be assigned a reference number. This reference number MUST be used in making the required bank payment. Failure to include the reference number will result in undue delays in the processing of your application/transaction.

Depending on the type and quantity of documents, processing time could be on the same day or could take up to 3 working days if presented in person. Please note that a valid ID must be presented for all certificiations.

Documents submittted by post could take up to 10 working days to be processed for notarization.

The Jamaican Consulate in Birmingham operates from 10:00am to 1:00pm, Mondays to Wednesdays where this service can also be accessed.

Your Jamaican driver's licence expiresevery five years on your birthday. However, you have the option of renewing itup to 30 days before it expires.

It is illegal to drive in Jamaicawithout a current driver's licence. Driving with an expired licence is the sameas never having been issued with one.

Jamaicans residing in Canada may renewtheir Jamaican driver’s license whilst residing overseas.To renew your driver's licence, the licenseeshould delegate a person who is in Jamaica to transact business on theirbehalf. The application form for should be filled out and signed by the applicant inthe presence of a Notary Public or a Consular Officer at the Jamaican HighCommission in Ottawa or the Consulate General of Jamaica in Toronto.The Notary Public or the Consular Officermust sign and affix his stamp/seal to the form.

A recent passport-sized photograph of thelicensee should also be certified and stamped by the authorised officer, whoshould also verify that the person is literate. Photographs must not be morethan six months old.

Having done this, a notarized authorisation letterfor the person delegated, the expired driver's licence, notarised form andphotograph must be submitted to the collectorate for processing.To collect the new driver’s licence, theperson delegated must present a proper valid ID.
